How to LOCK IN and focus on command
This could literally save you HOURS.
Hey ,
A lot of people, especially students, struggle with focus, and they think it’s because they “lack discipline” or “just aren’t motivated enough.”
But here’s the thing: your environment actually dictates your actions -- NOT the other way around.
If your phone is on your desk, you WILL check it. No matter what. The moment your focus starts to wane, you will get cooked by your phone because it’s the most convenient option.
Your brain will ALWAYS follows the path of least resistance. So instead of relying on “motivation,” make focus the default option.
You need to design a focused environment to help you focus, not try to focus in a distracting environment.
I experienced this firsthand on a flight back to Hong Kong. I had no internet, no phone, and literally zero distractions (except for the plane engine which wasn’t even a distraction)
Just me, my book, and hours of uninterrupted time. And because I had no other option, I read over 30 chapters.
That would’ve been nearly impossible if I had my phone buzzing next to me and blasting me 10 thousand gajillion notifications into my face.
"Willpower" is bulls***. You shouldn't have to will yourself to focus, because focusing becomes the DEFAULT option.
One of the best habits that I started to do, was when I was about to study, I would switch my phone on DND mode and put it DEEP into my school bag.
James Clear makes this very clear in his book:
“You do not rise to the level of your goals. You fall to the level of your systems.”
Fix your environment, and focus will follow.
